To create Freepbx extension using PJSip is easy, go to application and extension tab. Click on create new PJSIP extension.
On the extension settings, create the extension number which is customer extension ID.
Note that while creating Extension, it's always important to confirm with the customer the extension number they preferred considering the following order
- If the you runs multiple office or home office, you need extension range that is unque for each sites
- It's recommended to set extension in 3 digits
- Make sure that the extension is not reserved. Check on the Freepbx to see if it's not used by other users
Creating name for the extension is important, it is the soul of the extension. The Nautilus way is to create company name follow by the extension or name in this format
Company name: Wolfgang
If there is a department name, you may put it accordingly.
"Wolfgang 1006 - Tanglin"
Extension user: 1006
If they have a full name and extension number, you may input the following way
"Wolfgang 1006 John Alam - Tanglin"
Best naming scheme "Wolfgang 1006 - Tanglin".
Adding complex password of the extension is compulsory, you can either leave it to freepbx configurator to handle or use password generator link such as
https://passwordsgenerator.net/
On outbound caller ID display, set the telephone number to which this extension will be using. By setting that, when user calls out, it shows the telephone number assigned to that user.
On the advance setting, when creating new extension, it is always advisable to ask the customer if they need call recording on their Telephone conversation. Call recording is an area of privacy and it must be best instructed by the customer. To set call recording setting, go to advance and scroll down to see the recording setting. Set recording on individual routes.
When approaching a system that is supporting many users from different organization, always set a custom context to the extension group. When running Extension on multi tanent its best to keep them in one custom context or " in one room" so that their call will not accidentally route to other extensions that doesn't belong to their organization.
Inbound caller ID number can be declared in the advance tab under inbound. By setting the number, call that is supposed to ring on the user directly will go straight there.
In summary, the key settings are as follows
Extension number
Extension name.
Extension outbound number display
Extension password
Extension inbound number
Call recording
Make sure to click on submit and apply the configuration.
Happy setting.
